We Are Living Prayers

A teacher said yesterday that our lives are our daily prayers. Somehow
this struck a chord with me. It reinforced something I had been trying
to understand for many years, that they way we lead our lives is some-
thing very sacred. It is incumbent upon us to live thoughtfully, to
live kindly with good intentions to all, to believe that we are walking
with God every step of our lives. Prayers are, then, not something that
just goes from our spirit to God, but something that permeates our very
being. We are a walking, living prayer and we must live sacredly if
we are to reach God.
Is your life a prayer? Please write.

Blessings

What is a blessing?
Something beautiful that God bestows on us.
Or, is it something we give to ourselves and to others?
I heard an American Indian say that we must remember to thank the
Great Spirit of Life for all the blessings that we have -- the blessing
of life, of air, of wind, of son, of water -- that we must never take
these for granted. I agree with him.
We are each blessed every day we live because there is something
beautiful waiting to be discovered if only we can fully open our eyes
to see. We often wear such blinders that we live in the dark, rather
than see the light.
We need to work hard to open our hearts to what is there before us,
to receive all the beauty awaiting us. But, too often, we live in
darkness with closed hearts and minds.
I thank God for all that has been given to me -- my life, my ability
to see and learn, for my family, for my good work, for my searching-
ness, for my love of life. If only I can overcome myself to fully
open my eyes and see all that is there for me, waiting to be
discovered and acknowledged.
What are your own blessings? What do you receive?

Walking toward Peace

I read about a man who decided to hold silent peace walks; his aim is to spread peace by sharing the silence with others (''Walking Toward Peace'' by Sallie James, Oct. 3, 2006 Sun-Sentinel).
Says the man, Piero Falci, ''If we are more peaceful ourselves, we will not be so violent in our relationships, and it will spread. If you cultivate peace, then you can give peace.''
What do you think of this idea of taking silent walks? Write to us.
