A New Chance
I was reading a recent article about a young woman who has received a bionic arm which allows her to control parts of the device by her thoughts alone and directs her arm to do what she wants, such as to peel a banana. The woman lost her left arm at the shoulder in a motorcycle accident, and the new device works by detecting the movements of a chest muscle that has been rewired to the stumps of nerves that once went to her now-missing limb.
Reading this article, I was thinking about the wondrous things that human beings are capable of, such as creating this bionic arm which helps this woman achieve a new, better quality life. I ask myself what if we could direct all our energy into wonderful projects like these which help mankind, rather than engaging in war which only tends to destroy and not build anything good. I was thinking, too, of all the American soldiers and Iraqi people who have lost limbs by car bombs and fighting there, and all the work being put into building protheses that will help these victims regain some control over their lives, and how these protheses, created in response to the ravages of war, represents such important work to help people.
Why can't we use all our energy to build a better world, rather than to continue waging war? When will we ever use all our capacity to do good, rather than evil?
What are your own thoughts? Share them with us.
