WRITER’S PROMPT: Writing Your Own Obituary

Everybody, no matter how young and strong and vibrant each one is today, will have obituaries someday, too, writes columnist Peggy Noonan in the Oct. 3 Wall Street Journal (”Keeping America Safe From the Ranters”).

”Their careers will be captured in eulogies, leaving their children proud, or not. In a way you’re writing your own obit every day. You’re making the lead paragraph positive and constructive, or not.”

She continues: ”Someone’s going to sum you up one day. You want to live your professional life in a way that they can write good things.”

While she is focusing on people’s professional lives, one could also say this applies to our personal lives, too. So, what about you? If you had to write your obituary today and summarize your life, would you find a lot of positive things to write about — or would you find something else? What kind of life, whether professional or person, do you want to lead?
Write to us.
