What if I asked you to write your life story in just six words? Maybe these would be six separate words that describe the highlights of your life. Or, maybe the six words combine to form a simple sentence that conveys the most important belief you have or what separates you from others.
For me, the six words are: Never accept ‘no’ for an answer.
By that I mean most of my life has involved persistence, keeping on going until a goal is met or a dream is realized. I never would accept someone telling me what I should do or not do — I had to figure things out for myself. I didn’t want to be put in a corner.
So, what about you? What’s the six words that best tell your life story or theme? Share them with us and explain, if you can, why you choose those six words.
Good writing to you!

Thursday, February 19th, 2009Across the country friends are sending email1317s to each other posting 25 things about themselves that come from the bottom of their hearts. Some examples were cited in an article in the Feb. 5, 2009 New York Times (”Ah, Yes, More About Me? Here Are ’25 Random Things”’). These include:
”I was in a production of ‘Hair’ and yes, I did get naked.”
”I think everyone should be in therapy. Yes, You. Especially you.”
”I wanted so bad to look like John Wayne when I was a kid.”
Another writer said she likes to dance alone in the living room and says buttered tortillas one of her favorite meals.
So, now, what about you? Can you list 25 things that will let someone else know what you’re really like deep down?
Please share with us.

WRITER PROMPT: Let’s Write About Love
Monday, February 9th, 2009I would like you to write about someone or something that you love dearly, with all your heart.
Perhaps you’ll write about a special person in your life, such as a spouse or parent or grandparent or friend. Perhaps you’ll write about someone who taught you something and who has encouraged you throughout your life in attaining your dreams. Perhaps it is your dog or cat or pet who gives you unselfish love.
Or, write about something that you feel very passionate about. Perhaps it’s a song or poem you love. Perhaps it’s a sport or a hobby that makes you very content and keeps your interest. Perhaps it your love of art or painting.
In this essay you are asked to write about your passion, whether it’s about another human or creature, or whether it’s about your great interest in something. What is it about this passion that makes you feel so good?
WRITER PROMPT: Write to Someone You Miss Deeply
Thursday, February 5th, 2009Have you ever missed someone so badly that you wanted to cry?
I felt that way on my birthday Monday when I looked back to the time I was a boy and remembered a beautiful birthday gift that my parents gave me to for my eighth birthday — a beautiful yellow shirt that seemed so elegant to me. On Monday I missed terribly my mother and father, whom I had lost years ago, and wished they were with me and part of my world today.
What about you? Who do you miss? Why not write a letter to the one you miss and tell him or her how much they mean to you. Maybe, even, it’s a beloved pet you once had. Write with your heart open and say all the truths you want them to hear. You’ll feel better.
WRITER PROMPT: What is Your Third, Most Important Wish?
Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009I read some advertisement for a new book called ” Third Wish” by Robert Fulghum in which the ad copy said:
”In fairy tales, the third wish is the last one left when the first wish was foolish, and the second wish was used to undo the first wish. Now the remaining wish must be used wisely and well….” That thought led me to think about the question for today: What would you use your third wish for? Assuming you have wasted your first two wishes on silly things, then, what would you do with your remaining wish? Deep down, what is the thing that you wish with all your heart, with all your might, that might come true?
Write about it and share your ”third wish” with us.
