I recently heard the expression ”a heart as wide as the world,” and somehow it stayed with me.
I thought about people whose hearts are open to the world and who show loving kindness to others and who help heal the world and make it a better place to be. And I wondered how to be like these people, how to put my hurts and anger and closedness aside and be more open in my dealings with others.
I think babies naturally have big hearts and are open to all they come in contact with — you can see that in the way they smile at those who smile at them — but as we grow older we seem to close ourselves more and more as we are buffeted by life’s problems and experiences as we try to lead our lives. So, somehow, as adults we need to begin again to open our hearts, to make them wide to the world, to give forth our love and kindness to others. It’s not as easy as it sounds, is it?
What comes to you mind when you hear the expression ”a heart as wide as the world”? Do you know people who are this way? Why not write about them, what they are like, how they became this way so that we can learn from them? How would you live with a heart that is wide as the world?
