There was an article in the December 4 edition of The Washington Post about writer Toni Morrison who one has just written a new book, ”A Mercy.” The writer of the article, Bob Thompson, says of a character in the book book that ”She has not yet learned to look inside herself for what Morrison has called ‘the beloved — the part of the self that is you, and loves you, and is always there for you.”
What about you. Have you taken time to find the ”beloved” within you who comforts you? Or, do you have to always search outside yourself for love and validation?
Perhaps if we each took a little time to appreciate ourselves rather than focus only on our mistakes, we might all feel better and have a happier world.
What’s your own thoughts about the beloved self? Does Morrison have a good idea?
